Why Mkweli

Compliance tools shouldn’t cost more than the risk they prevent

Enterprise AML suites are powerful — and expensive, cloud-locked, and slow to roll out. Mkweli puts essential sanctions screening on every Android phone your staff already carry.

01

Screen before you send

Check counterparties against global lists before every incoming or outgoing payment — reduce regulatory breach and fine risk at the point of decision.

02

Works without the cloud

Lists ship with the app. Screen offline in branches, rural offices, or anywhere connectivity is unreliable. Update when you’re back online.

03

Zero licence fee

Free APK for financial institutions and compliance teams. Deploy widely without per-seat procurement cycles or annual renewals.

Capabilities

Everything you need for point-of-payment screening

Multi-list coverage

Screen against USA OFAC SDN, United Nations, European Union, and United Kingdom consolidated sanctions in one search.

On-device, offline

Lists ship with the app and can be refreshed in-app. Screening works without internet after install — ideal for field teams and low-bandwidth sites.

One-tap list updates

Pull the latest data from official sources when online. Stay current without waiting for a new app release.

Privacy-first design

Screening runs locally. Names you check do not need to leave the device for a cloud API call.

Multilingual UI

Switch between English, French, Portuguese and Spanish so branch staff can work in the language they use every day.

Seconds, not minutes

Enter a name, tap Screen, get a clear result. Built for teller desks, onboarding queues and payment ops — not for sitting through long form wizards.

How it works

From install to first screen in under five minutes

  1. 1

    Install the free APK

Download for Android and allow install from your browser if prompted. No account required to start screening.

  2. 2

    Confirm lists are loaded

Open the app — you’ll see counts for USA (OFAC SDN), UN, EU and UK. Tap Update lists when you have connectivity.

  3. 3

    Screen before payment

Type the counterparty name, tap Screen, and act on the result before you process the transfer.

Where it shines

Deploy screening where your people already work

Branch & teller desks

Give every cashier a same-day check without waiting for a desktop system or central ops queue.

Remittance corridors

Screen senders and receivers in agent networks that run primarily on Android phones.

Backup when systems fail

When the core banking or vendor AML portal is down, keep critical payments moving with an offline tool.

Small & mid-size FIs

Start formal name screening without enterprise procurement — free, installable the same day.

FAQ

Straight answers for compliance teams

Is Mkweli a full AML compliance system?

No. It is a focused sanctions name-screening tool. You still need policies, risk assessment, transaction monitoring, SAR processes, and governance appropriate to your licence and regulator. Always verify critical hits against primary official sources before blocking or reporting.

Does it require internet?

Screening works offline with lists stored on the device. Internet is only needed to download the APK and to refresh lists from official public feeds.

Which lists are included?

United States OFAC SDN, United Nations Security Council consolidated list, European Union financial sanctions, and the United Kingdom FCDO sanctions list. Official feeds are tried first. If the EU host hangs or is blocked, or the official UK CSV is too large for a phone (~50MB of statement-of-reasons text), the app uses OpenSanctions CDN mirrors of the same lists. Counts change as those lists change. After each successful update, Names loaded and the update total names line are the same figure — the sum of the UN, EU, UK and USA counts.

How does name matching work?

v1.0.15 uses token matching (name parts, any order) with ranked strong and possible scores. It is not phonetic fuzzy matching and not a full KYC platform.

Is the app free and who publishes it?

Yes — free Android APK, no per-seat fee. Published by Mkweli (mkweli.tech). Source: github.com/gilbertbouic/MkweliMobile. Contact: support@mkweli.tech.

How do I verify the download is genuine?

Download only from https://aml.mkweli.tech/. Current file: Mkweli_v1.0.15.apk, package com.mkwelimobile. Compare the SHA-256 in the download section of this page with the file you received.

Can we use it alongside our existing vendor?

Yes. Many teams use Mkweli as a mobile / offline complement to core systems — for branches, agents, or contingency screening.
